Foodbank

2023 was a challenging year for us all, foodbank provided more than 50,054 meals to local referred clients suffering short term hunger crisis.

From January 2024, and experiencing the many challenges of high inflation, including price rises in gas and electricity.  This has been our busiest time delivering food parcels to local referred residents in short term hunger crisis.

We now have the imminent problem of relocating and merging our foodbank warehouse into the furniture warehouse. This requires the installation of a mezzanine floor at a cost of approximately £30,000. Please see the Ground Zero to Mezzanine Hero page for further information

We have opened our just giving page  and paypal account for those who would like to donate to the foodbank, thank you.

Foodbank is a busy part of church life, since start-up in December 2012 we have now delivered more than  350,000 meals to local referred residents in short term hunger crisis (as of Dec 2023).  These staggering figures could not have been achieved or maintained without our amazing volunteers, church partners, Derbyshire Council, local Supermarkets and the public.

New Hope Food Bank is one of the community focused outreaches undertaken by New Hope Community Church demonstrating the love of God to our community.  The foodbank compliments our existing ministries of Furniture packs for those affected by domestic violence and/or homelessness and Grow.  We partner with professional agencies and are supported by Councils, Schools, Supermarkets, Churches and Businesses across the area.

What we do
We provide emergency food to individuals and families who are in short term crisis who are referred to us by our professional partners. We will provide and deliver 21 meals per family member, per week, this is usually within 24 hours of our coordinator receiving the referral.  We have partnering churches in Dronfield, Eckington, Swallownest, and Hackenthorpe holding food parcels to ensure prompt delivery.

Our aim
To show the love and hope of God by serving our neighbours in times of need and supporting their efforts towards stability.

The aim of the food bank is to provide emergency food to people in short term crisis. It is a simple concept designed to help people in short term crisis by offering free emergency food for seven days for up to four visits (longer if the crisis is not resolved provided the client is working with relevant agencies to resolve their situation.)

When you are on a low income and have no financial safety net, a sudden crisis such as bereavement, ill health redundancy or marital break up, can leave you unable to feed yourself or your family.  Such situations can then deteriorate in to something far worse. New Hope Food Bank works to help people who find themselves in these situations by directing them to relevant agencies.  The immediate practical help provided by New Hope Food Bank gives the client and the referral agency breathing space to work together to resolve the underlying problems.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:00 am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access into the building, and a stairlift for anyone who requires as the church meeting is held on the 1st floor.  Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. The disabled toilet is in the main foyer on the ground floor.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:00 am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship. We typically have 3 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible.  We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. There will be a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a time of worship, followed by tea or coffee and a time of fellowship.
There is always opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service should you require.
Further information can be found on our "About us" page.

What about my kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • Seedlings (3-8 years)

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, please speak with one of the leaders.
There may be further opportunities available in foodbank, furniture project and charity shop.
